Perhaps the most revolutionary technology VRAFY offers is the ability to take your yield map from any field and turn it into a variable rate fertilizer application map. As you cross your fields, yields go up and down. VRAFY automatically calculates how much you’ve removed of each crop nutrient based on yield. You can simply replace what you’ve removed or change your rate slightly. For example, if you want to apply 110% or 90% of what you removed, it’s as simple as clicking a button. If you only fertilize every other year, you can combine the last 2 crop years and replace all the nutrients taken out during that time as an option. In the past on fields where you have not soil tested, you have likely just applied the same rate of fertilizer across an entire field. What this means is you’ve likely been applying far more fertilizer than you need in the low-yielding areas and depleting the soil in the high-yielding areas. VRAFY allows you to much more efficiently apply your fertilizer. This should lead to higher yields and healthier soils without spending any more money on fertilizer. Once your yield map is uploaded into the VRAFY system, crop removal prescriptions are run automatically, so you can usually apply variable rate fertility like never before within 24 hours of when harvest is completed in any field.

When you soil sample using GPS points, you will be able to run SPY Analysis to help you fine-tune your fertility program. Our SPY (Soil Point to Yield) Analysis charts out your soil nutrients against your yield data. For example, are your best yields coming from high potassium areas? Are your worst yields in areas with low soil pH? With SPY Analysis you can pinpoint which nutrients are most yield-impacting and which fertilizer products should be most worthwhile to apply, as well as which fertilizers you may be able to cut, at least in the short-term.

The VRAFY Formula library is an expansive list that allows you to build prescriptions customized for every field’s needs. You can create and use as many prescriptions as you need for any blend or individual product. You may want to apply the bare minimum amount of fertilizer to reach a yield goal. You may be looking to vary the rate all across a field but only up to a total dollar amount. Maybe money is no object and you want to fix every deficiency in a field. You can view your soil test data side by side next to your Yield or Imagery layers. VRAFY uses a variety of colors and screen options you can use to better understand what’s happening in your fields. On the other hand, if you simply want a quick analysis that highlights the most egregious issues in your fields, VRAFY can deliver. If you want to run your soil tests through the VRAFY system, the tests will need to go through Midwest Labs in Omaha, Nebraska. Since every lab will give different results, by using only one lab we have the most consistency with results and the most accurate recommendations. For a complete Mehlich 3 analysis, use the S3C-M test. The reason we like the Mehlich 3 test is it is much less expensive than many other soil tests, yet it can be used in soils with any pH level. Plus, we’ve found the Mehlich 3 to give the most accurate manganese test results. If you are wondering how you should correlate these tests with your past soil tests, in our opinion, past soil tests are not needed. We take current soil tests and current data to make fertility recommendations. Also, our recommended soil sampling method uses GPS points, so you can find those locations in the future. Odds are high your soil tests in the past were not from the same exact locations, so there would be no way to correlate the data anyway. However, moving forward, you will now have GPS locations for soil tests so you can start tracking things from here on out if you would like to see your soil test trends.

The VRAFY Soil Sampling App lets you soil sample with ease! Either have the VRAFY team create a sampling plan for you and load it in the app or build your own plan. Edit plans to move sample points to your liking. Use the app in the field so you can drive right to each sample point. We encourage you to take 8 to 12 soil cores within a 10-foot radius of the GPS point. Just make sure to keep your soil probe straight up and down when you sample, and always go to the same depth. These steps will allow you to get representative, repeatable samples, and the most accurate soil test results.
